James, I'm right with ya on tipping, which I view as a scheme to let employers underpay their service employees, exposing them to the whims of customers while guilting customers to pay an ever-greater amount of money over and above the actual price of the meal or service.
The only thing I would add to our tipping formula is this: Base that 15% on the PRETAX price. Taxes add no difficulty to the server's work, so it makes no sense to consider them when tipping.
I think I may have played a polka that the wandering question may have been referencing. Unfortunately, I don't remember the title. Perhaps checking in with the former leader of that band might help...
